What should we wear for our photo session?
The best colors to wear will be light neutrals. Outfits that coordinate, but are not distracting to the eye. Try coordinating outfits in complementary neutral colors, rather than matching exactly. Neutral tones, soft pastels, or earthy shades work the best. I’ll always say that cream and white are my favorite colors to edit. Avoid busy patterns and logos. You can text me outfit ideas and I can help you!
What if my kids are shy or uncooperative?
Do not worry! I have tons of experience working with kids of all ages, and I’m a mom myself. I do my best to make it fun and have your kids feel comfortable. I try to make it engaging and have prompts to use to have them relax and enjoy the session. We can also take breaks when the kids need a moment to themselves.
What locations do you recommend for sessions?
I live in Woodstock, GA so I typically shoot in the Roswell, Marietta, Woodstock, Alpharetta, Canton, Milton areas. There are some go to spots that I can recommend, that other photographers shoot at as well. I always ask you first if you have an idea of where you want to shoot, and if you have a secret special location you want to shoot at - please let me know! There are also studios around these areas I can recommend. There is a small travel fee that’s incurred if traveling outside of these areas, so let me know where you’d like to shoot!
What is the best time of day for a session?
GOLDEN HOUR. This is about 2 hours before sunset and is my favorite time to shoot. It provides the best lighting for natural light photos, and I try to get the gooey sunlight in whenever I can. If you'd rather a morning session, it’s best to do it within the hour of sunrise as once the sun is higher in the sky, the quality of light is not great for photos. Sometimes, we can shoot at different times if the location has good open shade. Recommended times can vary though by session, like a studio session can be done pretty much anytime during the day when it’s light outside, and newborns are typically done in the morning.
Do you offer mini sessions?
Yes, I offer mini sessions, but they are scheduled on specific dates throughout the year. To stay updated on upcoming mini session availability, be sure to follow me on Instagram and subscribe to my newsletter! I typically do not offer one-off mini sessions, but if you have a special request or occasion in mind, don’t hesitate to reach out—I’m happy to discuss it with you. That said, my full (1-hour) sessions are the most popular and offer more time to capture your family’s memories.
What happens if the weather doesn’t cooperate on the day of the session?
If we have scheduled an outdoor shoot and the weather doesn’t look great (ie. rain or strong winds) I’ll do my best to reschedule for a later date. I don’t like to call it too early though, so I usually check the weather up until the morning of the shoot to see if it needs to be rescheduled. Your deposit will hold to the rescheduled date.
Can we bring our dog to the session?
Yes, I love dogs! As long as your dog is well behaved and safe, bring them! Leashes are typically required at most outdoor locations, and it’s helpful to bring someone to hold the dog for the photos of just the family - keep this in mind. Most studios charge a pet fee, so let me know if you want to bring your dog and we can plan accordingly.
How long will it take to get my photos back?
I typically aim for a 2 - 3 week turnaround time, but please let me know if there’s a deadline you’re trying to hit and I can work towards that. I will let you know when scheduling, what the turnaround window is at that time.
What is your editing style, do you use photoshop?
My editing style is crisp, bright whites, good balance of contrast and saturation. I mainly use Lightroom, where I edit to my style and make adjustments there. Sometimes, I do use photoshop if there’s something in the image that I want to try and remove, or on special occasions if there’s a specific request. Normally, I do not use Photoshop to alter appearances, but I do use it to help skin smoothing in newborn and boudoir.
How does it work to upgrade to a full gallery?
After your session, I cull and edit all of the good ones. Typically this can be around 50 - 80 images for an hour session (sometimes less depending). You get a certain amount of images included in your package investment, but then you have the option to purchase more images once I deliver you the preview of the gallery. All of the images will be edited so you can see them. Once selected, you will receive each image in both color and black and white.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes, I require a non-refundable deposit to secure your booking. While I strive to be as flexible as possible, this deposit helps protect both of our time and ensures your session is reserved. If weather or unforeseen circumstances arise, I will do my best to accommodate you and reschedule. In the unlikely event that I need to cancel the session, your full deposit will be refunded.
